So I think the issue may be is that if the PC that created the "ghost" HOMEGROUP is powered up WIN 10 sees the "GHOST" as active and tries to connect The link below explains the process. Here's why. Personally, while I have never used Homegroup--prefer to do my file sharing the old fashioned way--it has never bothered me that it is in the Navigation pane. I reformatted my old laptop ,it is now rejoined in my homegroup with the brand new laptop.They previously had shared folders. Can't Leave Homegroup Windows 10 I see many reporting the problem with the same old non-working fixes suggested. The key is:1. It might have been on the WIN8 desktop prior to a harddrive failure and a clean re-install.

Keeping shut the pc which I believed was hosting the ghost homegroup... It shows that there is a home group to join but nothing happens when i type the password.
