You can download and save AVG8 to your download folder, go offline, delete and install. Previously had AVG 7.5 free with no trouble to update automatically regularly. Many AVG update problems have been attributed to a corrupted Winsock/TCP-IP stack. I don't use ZA, but I have not seen anything that suggests that under normal circumstances it would not work once you have granted AVG the necessary permissions. Need to get 0B of archives.

O/S= OEM XP Home Edition + SP2 and updates as of 3May 08.

Using your logic, there was no reason to update from AVG 7.0 to AVG 7.5. Do you just use add/remove programs (although AVG A/V Free has an "Uninstall" in its Program Folder in the start menu)?

Expect boot up to take longer, since the new AVG is a bit clunky. The problem is I can't get it removed. AVG is no good to me if it can't be updated. I'll post that direction if its needed.
