I have had the Sata HDD checked by the people I purchased it from and they say that there is nothing wrong with it (so they won't take it back). Although Windows 7 has its own memory-diagnostics program, I prefer the free Memtest86+, which you have to boot separately. Formatting and/or recovering the drive will most likely not correct an error of this type. It has 3 partitions, 2 Healthy 200mMB & 465GB and 1 Unallocated 128MB. http://techvividglobalservices.com/hard-drive/hard-drive-lag.html

Except for not having my data, I am thoroughly satisfied in spending $20 on repairing my computer myself and not $400 that HP wanted to charge me because my pc was A friend re-programmed my SATA drive to 1.5 speed through the Hitachi program and now the BIOS recognises the hard drive. I get error messages as "Disk boot failure" "Hard Drive Missing. To answer your question about getting data from a boot drive that has XP and another that has another OS, I would need to know the OS. If no, the BIOS will probably need to be upgraded, or even the motherboard. I don't want RAID. I plugged it into the USB port of my laptop and tried to boot up, and got into recovery mode.

They now give a msg saying missing operating system and when I view them in easeus partion software it comes up that the harddrives are no longer partitioned. Also under Linux it is shown correctly.
