I even tried Windows 7 just to see if was the DVD. Resolved it in the same way as you, as I've seen mention of the same problem on here with earlier builds of SP3. If you have the hardware, you could move the hard drive into a known good working machine and see if you can install Windows onto the hard drive from there. I Googled the stop code and found your blog -- and it worked!
